The Airedale Terrier is a breed of the terrier type which developed in Airedale, a geographic area in Yorkshire, England. They are often known as the kings of Terrier as they are very large and extremely bubbly. This is a breed which possesses ample valor and poise and is a defending and loyal pet as well as a quick and frivolous entertainer. Having been bred from a Welsh terrier and an Otter Hound, the breed has also been called the Waterside Terrier, because it was bred originally to hunt otters in and around the valleys of the River Aire which runs through Airedale. This breed is incredibly sound for families with kids, but can be a bit bumpy in terms of play and hence may not be the best choice for families with toddlers. The Terrier’s have a high impel towards their prey, as a result socialization with other domestic pets must be done during the early days. This breed can be hostile with other dogs but are generally gracious and sociable with strangers. The height of the Airedale Terrier is approximately 22-24 inches, and the weight is around 45-70 pounds. This is a strong looking breed that is often huge in size. Their coat is stiff and sinewy, and their coloring is generally black or grizzle mixed with tan. Underneath the hard outer-coat, there is a softer basecoat. They have an idiosyncratic face and appearance, with a beard that will need to be kept well groomed.
